The YEA! employee spotlight
This week's employee of the week is Melissa Reese, who works in the band relations departement in USBands. She also stars in many of our videos, namely USBands updates, and she made a recent cameo in our Valentine's Day installment of Always a Cadet. Here are Melissa's answers to some fun questions.
What did you do in drum corps? Nothing
What did you do in marching band? I was in the colorguard/indoor program at my high school and also marched in
two independent winterguards after I graduated - Co-motion (2005) and
Blackwatch Winterguard (2006).
After graduating HS I have taught at several different
schools but have been a member of the West Deptford HS colorguard staff since
2004.
Who's your favorite music person, living or dead, real or fictional? Billy Joel.
What's the best meal you've eaten? What was it and where? Rio Brazilian Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach, or locally I
prefer exploring new restaurants in Philly – I would eat anything on the menu
at Devil’s Alley or El Vez.
In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job? I am part of USBands and work to make sure that
everyone has the best experience for both marching band and the indoor season.
For 2013, I manage the New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West
Virginia events and bands.
What was your first job? Cashier at Party City Glassboro, NJ
What's the last thing you saw in the movies? Batman
Do you give money to panhandlers? Nope, I’m a plastic.
Whats your drink at Starbucks? Grande Café Vanilla anything – iced or hot – skim &
Splenda
What's your drink at the local bar? Knuckleball if I’m at Allentown/Bethlehem Brew Works
How often do you prepare your own meals? 4-5 nights a week
What's your favorite cereal? Raisin Bran
What's hanging above your sofa? A big mirror and two little candle holders that have
mirrors. The candles are from Ikea and don’t match and everything looks
crooked.
How much is too much to spend on a haircut? $75 (I have a lot of hair…they charge more)
When's bedtime? 11-ish?
Have you been to NYC? Which do you prefer, the old Times Square or the
new Times Square? Yes. Neither. I strongly dislike most things about NY
and tourist traps.
How about Broadway? What have you loved? Wicked & Hairspray
What do you think of American Idol? Awful.
Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction? What was the last book you read? Usually go for non-fiction. I read all summer by the pool
and usually get through quite a few books. For Christmas I got three new ones
that I finished pretty quickly:
- Believe by Eric LeGrand
- ESPN: Those Guys Have All the Fun by James Andrew Miller
- Bossypants by Tina Fey
Who is your mortal enemy? Jon Swengler & Matt Hinchcliff… just kidding. I
don’t hold grudges long enough to consider anyone an enemy.
When's the last vacation you took? Where did you go?
Outter Banks, North Carolina in August with my family.
Do you FB? What do you like about it? Yes. Photo sharing, keeps me connected to friends from
all the different places I’ve lived and worked. I love using Facebook as a
marketing tool, and think every company should have a set communication plan
for social media. If you use it right, it works!
Do you Twitter? Of course! - @USBands
Where do you go to be alone? My apartment or in my car.
And finally, if you could meet one person, dead or living, who
would it be? Bill Clinton.
