A history of the beloved Maroon and Gold is here!

Authors and contributors of the Cadets 75th Anniversary History Book celebrate its completion on Monday night. Pictured from left, Kevin and Todd Ullrich, David Shaw, Greg Cinzio and Dr. Joseph Cinzio. Also pictured, the front cover of the 252-page book.
There are so many moments this season that were truly wonderful. From the immense pride felt as the Holy Name Cadets performed in the 56th Presidential Inaugural Parade to the tears that flowed at the 75th reunion and concert and home show performance in Giants Stadium. The memories are far too many to count!
Now, as 2009 and a memorable anniversary near its end, a trio of dedicated alumni are proud to present the Cadets 75th Anniversary History Book, a narrative and pictorial account of one of the most honored drum corps in the activity.
Authored by Greg Cinzio (1966-1977), David Shaw (1950-1958) and Kevin Ullrich (1982-1983), the Cadets’ history book takes the reader from a church basement in Garfield, N.J., where in 1934 three young boys dreamed of starting a drum corps to the spectacular Lucas Oil Stadium where in 2009 the Holy Name Cadets vied for their tenth DCI World Championship.
That Maroon and Gold story set within three-quarters of a century is legendary. It carries with it four name changes, several relocations, the near demise and rebuilding of a champion, and never, ever wavering, the connections and bonds that link one generation of Cadets to the next.
“This book is something special,” said Cinzio, author, historian and recent inductee into the Cadets Hall of Fame. “It means so much for us to finally complete it and let others have a chance to know, respect and cherish the wonderful history of our corps.”
The softbound book boasts 252 pages and includes historical narrative and more than 300 black and white images, many of which have never been seen publicly, Cinzio said. The color cover carries the symbol known by every Cadet, supporter and fan – that gorgeous West Point-styled uniform. Take a look at the cover, particularly into the buckle Cinzio added. “The ghosts of Cadets gone by are still marching with them.”
Each book is $25, with a portion of the proceeds returning to support the Cadets’ organization.
