Holy Name meets Thursday at Dessert Party

Catch up with old friends and corps info this month

The May Gathering-of-the-Maroon returns this Thursday, May 7th, at 7 p.m., at  the VFW Hall, Outwater Lane, in Garfield, N.J. It is the last meeting before the corps' 75th Anniversary Season kicks off with Move-In on May 15th and Memorial Day events in North Jersey.

According to Holy Name organizer Dave Shaw, momentum and excitement has grown, resulting in feedback that alumni who have never attended one of these social evenings before plan on being present this week.

"Just to tease you a little: Val Arthur from the 40s, Paul Arthur from the 60s, Jeff Males and Dee Kolbusz from the 70s, and that’s just a few," Shaw said.

In lieu of the usual pizza fare, the evening will feature a dessert party. Everyone is asked to bring along some kind of dessert to share. If your diet doesn’t allow sweets; fruit and cheese plates would be a nice alternative, as well. Coffee and tea will be provided, and the bar as usual will be open for service. If you are unable to bring a contribution of either a dessert or alternative, come away. Organizers will pass the hat for contributions for a donation to the VFW for their continuing generous hospitality and use of the facility.

"All are welcome! We encourage the participation of your spouses, as well. Remember how all the spouses and partners made the December gathering so special!of their hall over all these months," Shaw said.

This will be the last monthly gathering of the Maroon and Gold as the summer brings drum corps shows, parades and 75th Anniversary events. Montly meetings at the VFW will return in October.
