USBands Introduces Staff for All-Star Marching Band
Hall of Fame and World Champions to Instruct Band While at Disney
The USBands All-Star Marching Band instructional staff has been chosen.
These staff members will be working closely with the All-Star Band this Nov. 29–Dec. 2 at Walt Disney World® Resorts as they prepare for the Christmas Day Parade. Nominations now exceed 200 students.
Cipriani holds a Bachelor of Music degree in instrumental education. He has been a brass instructor for the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, brass caption head for the Magic of Orlando and Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, and he has headed and consulted for the brass section of the DCA Champion Syracuse Brigadiers as well as marching bands, jazz bands, concert bands as well as drum and bugle corps across the United States, Canada and Korea. In addition, Cipriani serves as an adjudicator at marching band competitions throughout the country for Bands of America and the US Scholastic Band Association.
A professional pianist, Bentley holds a BA and an MA in the area of orchestral conducting. He is a music educator and adjudicator for the US Scholastic Band Association and the Bands of America. He has been the director or the assistant director of a number of high school and junior high school band programs. He has been on the brass staff of The Cadets several years, and previously with the Blue Devils and Santa Clara Vanguard. Internationally, he has presented a number of clinics with the Blue Devils and as an individual throughout Europe, Indonesia and Japan. He was also assistant director of the 2002 Winter Olympics' band.
The percussion team will be headed by The Cadets current percussion caption supervisor and arranger, Colin McNutt, along with other current and former Cadets staff members.
McNutt has a lengthy marching and drum corps resume, including former director of percussion and arranger for the Madison
Scouts of Madison, Wis. He arranged music and instructed for the Star of
Indiana of Bloomington, Ind., the Glassmen of Toledo, Ohio, and the
Crossmen. A former member of Boston Crusaders and Santa Clara Vanguard, he has written
music for marching bands in the United States and Japan and also wrote and taught
for the stage production "Blast!" He completed a double major of music education and classics from
the University of Massachusetts and has conducted clinics for the percussion
companies Avedis Zildjian Co., REMO, Inc., and Vic Firth, and
The colorguard staff will be headed by The Cadets Hall of Fame member April Gilligan and assisted by Kate Hopkins.
Gilligan holds a master's degree in school guidance and works at Braddock 2 High School. Her guard experience includes: director of Braddock HS World Guard, director of Braddock Independent and caption head of The Cadets guard. She has taught guard at Irmo and Mona Shores high schools, worked with the University of Miami Hurricanes Marching Band and founded Miami Youth Inc.
Katie Hopkins marched in The Cadets and served as a colorguard captain, achieving the distinguished service award in 2008 and The Cadet of the Year award in 2009. She also performed with The Cadets in the 2009 Inaugural Parade. She holds a BA in dance, with a concentration in teaching, and a minor in arts, entertainment, and media management.
